Why environmental protection drives us

At wisefood and within the LEEF Group, the protection of the environment and climate is not just a trend; for us, it is one of the most pressing tasks of our time. That is why we work here; this mindset is the foundation upon which we develop and sell products, and it guides our business decisions.

For this, we were honored with the German Sustainability Award 2026, making us officially a "leader in smart, environmentally friendly, and climate-conscious packaging solutions." This recognition shows: Our work with circular materials has an impact!

Addressing resource conservation and a circular economy is part of daily professional life at wisefood, from procurement to support.

Which materials do we use to conserve resources?

We know that switching from single-use to reusable tableware is not always and everywhere feasible, especially in the catering industry and at events where hygiene regulations are strict and the energy consumption of transport and dishwashing lines often calls the benefits of reusables into question. Therefore, we want to provide an alternative to packaging waste. We focus on single-use tableware and food packaging made from renewable raw materials such as palm leaf, wood, bamboo, and sugarcane, as well as edible tableware.

Agricultural waste products like palm leaves and sugarcane fibers are given a second life with us as plates, bowls, or cups, instead of ending up as waste. Edible tableware leaves no packaging waste behind after use, as it simply ends up in the stomach. Palm leaf tableware is made from naturally fallen leaves of the Areca palm and is a certified climate-neutral material. Bagasse consists of fiber residues from sugarcane pressing that accumulate during sugar production.

For our paper products, we focus on water-based coatings. Our wood and paper products are FSC-certified and recyclable; many products also have certification for industrial or home compostability. For reusable applications, our range includes drinking straws made of glass and stainless steel.

We are continuously looking for new, sustainable materials, for example in the areas of edible tableware and uncoated paper solutions.

How we work

The international assessment organization EcoVadis has evaluated our sustainability management system – from environmental protection and fair working conditions to ethical conduct and sustainable procurement. We received the Gold Medal and reached a percentile of 96% in the assessment, placing us among the top 4% of evaluated companies. The Gold Medal reflects the quality of our sustainability management system as well as our commitment to greater transparency throughout the entire value chain.

Our mission is to develop and sell sustainable single-use and reusable products with impact. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as our sustainability framework. We derive our values and actions from the SDGs in our daily operations, development, sourcing, interpersonal conduct, and across all corporate processes.
