Packaging Licensing (EPR) –
already taken care of for you
We cover the statutory fees for packaging licensing (Extended Producer Responsibility, EPR) under the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR, Regulation (EU) 2025/40) for you – for both sales packaging and service packaging – in all relevant EU countries. As was the case previously under the Packaging Act, these costs are already included in the product price. This means no additional effort or separate payments are required on your part.
What does this mean in concrete terms?
When you purchase Wisefood products from us, you do not need to register yourself with a dual system or a national packaging registry, nor do you need to pay any license fees yourself – we take care of that for you for the respective destination countries of your orders within the EU.
Why this is even necessary
As of August 12, 2026, the PPWR requires anyone placing packaging on the market for the first time in an EU member state to finance the collection and recycling of this packaging through an authorized system (extended producer responsibility). This obligation applies regardless of the sales channel and is implemented in each member state through the respective national authority or local dual system. Non-compliance can lead to sales bans and fines.
Who is normally responsible?
For service packaging – i.e., packaging that facilitates the handover of goods to the end consumer – the party who fills the packaging and thus places it on the market for the first time is generally obligated to participate in the system. In your case, that would be you, our customers, for example, if you fill our packaging with food in your café, snack bar, or shop and hand it out to your end customers.
We have consciously decided to take this step off your hands and handle the licensing on your behalf – so that you can focus on your core business instead of having to deal with registrations and reporting.
What this means for you
As our customer, you benefit from this without having to take any action yourself: Simply order as usual – packaging licensing under the PPWR is part of our service.
