Frequently Asked Questions

The drinking straw is designed for dimensional stability and engineered to remain rigid in beverages for a longer period: The sturdy paper features a water-based coating (free of PLA and PE) that prevents it from softening quickly. The exact durability depends on the beverage and temperature. For those seeking drinking straws with exceptionally long durability, wisefood also offers edible rice straws (dimensionally stable for 45–60 minutes) and reusable glass straws.

There are various options for disposing of the paper straws: The straw is industrially compostable (DIN 13432:2000-12) and, according to the manufacturer, can be disposed of via waste paper. Municipalities regulate whether paper that has come into contact with food may be placed in the waste paper bin differently – in case of doubt, a look at the local disposal regulations helps. The straw contains no PLA or PE coating.

No. The paper straws are tasteless: The water-based coating seals the paper, protects against rapid softening, and also ensures a pleasant mouthfeel while drinking. The straws are also heat-resistant and therefore suitable for hot drinks.
